CLIFFORD BROWN (1949-1956)
Jazz trumpet player, Clifford Brown, died tragically in a car accident after a show on tour in 1956. He played and recorded often with drummer Max Roach, releasing The Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet's first album in December 1954. Brown first drew notice for his astonishing command of the horn, spinning long intricate improvs with precision. The city of Wilmington, DE puts on an annual festival every year in Rodney Square honoring his legacy.
